Napoleon III and the public library

This is interesting. Rory Litwin at Library Juice shares a piece about the rise of (and resistance to) public libraries in France during the 1860s. I especially love the use of phrases like “hotbeds of propaganda and political intrigue” and “dangerous or subversive theories.” Kinda makes me wonder what Paul Boudet would have said about the blogosphere.
