No, I’m not referring to the tornado warning that shut down my library yesterday evening. Instead, I’m referring to the fact that a handful of my favorite websites, for whatever reason, aren’t working. It’s probably all unrelated, but it’s still a bit worrisome.
I did learn that Twitter can be very useful in a time of crisis like this. Here’s an actual Twitter-based conversation (Twitteration?) between me and Elaine, a children’s librarian in Ohio. It starts out like this:
Tweet from emcgrew: What’s up, Twitter? Just lost an update or two when I refreshed IE.
My tweet, in response: @emcgrew I’m feeling the same way about FaceBook now.
The rest of the interchange (Twitterchange?) follows:
@cswarren You’re lucky. I couldn’t even get IN to Facebook tonight.
@emcgrew that’s my problem now. muxtape isn’t working either
@cswarren AAAAAAH! The internet is crashing! The internet is crashing! : )
@emcgrew at least my WordPress is working — maybe i should blog about the Death of the Internet as we watch it.
@cswarren Do it! And make sure to give us all cool names like Chicken Licken. Good luck rhyming “librarian,” though.
@emcgrew I’ll just steal Jessamyn West’s idea and rhyme “Rarin’” with “Librarian”
@cswarren We’re librarians. It’s not stealing. It’s “resource sharing.” : )
I think it’s also worth pointing out that Twitter went down (only for a couple minutes, but still) while I was writing this post.
I feel so special now!
Why do they ALL have to go down at the same time? Don’t they know we have work to avoid and lives to ignore?
