Washington, D.C., it’s paradise to me
It’s not because it is the grand old seat
of precious freedom and democracy, no no no
It’s not the greenery turning gold in fall
the scenery circling the Mall
It’s just that’s where my baby lives, that’s all– From the song “Washington, DC,” by the Magnetic Fields
No, my significant other doesn’t live in Washington, DC. But there’s still some awesome happenings in our nation’s capital, at least in a digital sense.
First, the White House now has a blog. Which actually gets updated. With real information.
Second, the White House has a YouTube Channel featuring speeches and a weekly video address by President Obama. (The comparison to FDR’s fireside chats on the radio seems obvious.)
And third, the Library of Congress is on Twitter. And they actually update. With real information. And they even respond to their followers!
I’m excited. To think, I just recently starting listening to NPR because the news finally sounded almost optimistic and happy (even if the economy is still tanking like it is and the Middle East is still screwed up). But at least now some change can come to my RSS reader and my Twitter feed!
Yeah, the political science major inside me is tickled to see a White House which actually cares about being accessible to the public. And Google Maps can finally show the Vice President’s house, now that Darth Cheney has left office!
