Hi good to know I can live vicarious through someone as my colleagues who in attendance are sadly a teeny tiny bit lacking in the blogging tweeting and picture taking and uploading skills.
So thanks for the coverage :)

Great idea I know it is an overused term "thinking outside the box" but that is what they are doing. I saw a video "Unleash the Users" the other day of the new library in Aarhus, Denmark that asked their users what they wanted to see in a library and incorporated that in their new building. Here is the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9KsFrkxjtj8&feature=related

I love this. I love this on many levels.
1. It's a friendly brand. How could you NOT vote for these guys at the polls when funding issues come up.
2. Everything is a part of a whole. I mean, its not like they have books and then everything else is an afterthought.
3. OMFG Someone in libraryland that understands branding and does it well!!!!

The only thing I don't like...
...is getting rid of Dewey! Because I think it's just as good as filing bookstore style, IF you have enough signage. I get lost at Borders too!

Ah, yes. I should add that during the 9:00 meeting there was a brief discussion about the "public" nature of events in public library meeting rooms. This involved a tangential discussion about personal property rights, using cupcakes as an example.

Hello Chris,
Well said and inspiring. Yet another reason to love my job. I truly believe libraries are for the people, first and foremost. We don't always have the resources we need to make this viable but we do our best.
